Tax-free, whee!

$82.95?

$78.95?

$73.95?

Not even close -- try $59.49, courtesy of Macy's $69.99 'Gotta Have It' sale price, a 15% in-store coupon and DC's blessed biannual tax-free holiday.*

True, by purchasing these sweet, round-toed patent leather slingbacks with wide, suede bow adornments, you'll in a way be helping to prop up the inevitably-going-to-implode house of cards that is Jessica Simpson's "career," but honestly, they're worth shouldering that guilt and even the inevitable ribbing you're sure to receive from your more lah-dee-dah, "I don't get why you just didn't just go to Saks" girlfriends.

These shoes may look relatively pedestrian, and yes, they may bear the signature of a blonde blowup doll that doesn't leave the house without a thick shredding of Big Leauge Chew and a clip-on weave who wears and designs head-shaking fare like this and these, respectively, but you have to understand, despite all that bad, these shoes are the first and only pair I've ever found at a reasonable price-point that have a stem-skinny heel, a relatively rich-looking (and feeling) patent leather, a well-adhered bow in a contrasting fabric and an exaggeratedly round round-toe lead.

And just off the top of my head, I'm confident they'll nicely complement a pencil skirt, a-line skirt, classy-sexy for-Fall mini skirt, stovepipe trousers, wide-leg trousers, colored skinny jeans, dressy short shorts, slim city shorts, cap-sleeved sheath, slight cap-sleeved sheath, short-sleeved sheath, mock-neck sheath, sleeveless sheath, wrap dress, fuller-coverage cocktail dress and pretty much anything else you could throw at 'em.

So if you're in the market for an inexpensive, prim, office-appropriate, wardrobe-versatile pump, liberate one of those "15% off one item" coupons you know you've stuffed somewhere, strut your stuff over to the closest Macy's and snap up a pair of Jessica Simpson's 'Howard' slingbacks.

"But Mum, you can't wear budget shoes to the Blessing of the Dogs -- what will the Kalorama contingent think?"

The weekends are for him

Until recently, my days had been divided into relatively equal parts work, ASJiNE and quality time maintaining my relationship of questionable intimacy with Montesquieu. Somewhere in there was eating, running, shopping and maybe a bit of sleeping, but for the most part, I was a girl who literally lived and breathed her job, her blog and her dog.

But things have changed, and even though I wasn't looking for a fourth component to my day, I serendipitously found one when I rediscovered the merits of having a social life.

As such, something has to give.

Unfortunately, my boss wasn't persuaded by my "Work part-time, get paid full-time" PowerPoint presentation, and after coming home late (again) last night met by a half-enraged, half-crestfallen eye-patched gape, I knew paring down my quality time with Monte was not a viable option, either.

Therefore, until I can find a way to add more hours to my day or teach my pup how to navigate the world of Blogspot, I've decided ASJiNE - "If I had a Sugar Daddy..."/"Since I don't (yet)" features aside - will be a strictly Monday-through-Friday endeavor.

Forgive me, but the weekends, I've decided, are for him and him alone.

Quote of the day: Sarah Jessica Parker

"I used to spend 18 to 20 hours a day filming [SatC] in heels. Now I spend a much shorter day in them and I'm, like, 'Owww!' I've really destroyed my body by running and dancing in heels. My knees are shot."

(SJP on why she now favors flats in the September issue of British Elle)

I have no substantive retort to this comment, which is perhaps in itself an indictment of how true I deep-down believe her take on the always-in-heels issue to be.

No wait, I take that back.

Sarah Jessica claims she went from spending "18-20 hours a day" for the better part of a decade to a "much shorter" regiment almost immediately after the series ended in 2004. Now I'm no podiatrist, but that kind of extreme transition, whether it be from flats to heels or heels to flats, is begging for a joint problem. Just as building up alcohol tolerance, putting up with Giuliani DePandi's mug on "E! News Live" and slowing chipping away at your longstanding I-won't-spend-more-than-$XXX-on-a-dress limit takes slow-but-steady practice, so too does feeling comfortable in an all-day tip-toe. The more strictly you adhere to an always-in-heels rule, the more uncomfortable flats will become and yes, obviously, the more your knees will ache if you engage in behaviors that run contrary to this training. I'm inclined to believe that if she'd just stuck indefinitely with the 18-20 hours per day schedule to which she'd had grown accustomed, her body would not only not be "destroyed," it would be in tippity-top shape.

Like I said, no substantive retort. I guess it's just disheartening to hear that one of my kindred stiletto-ed spirits has gone France on me and decided to come out swinging for the other team.

Well, I guess I'll always have this one. I liked her alright before, but I fell in f**king love with her after seeing 8:16 to 8:00 of this clip, taken from "Victoria Beckham: Coming to America":

Scarlett at her scrum-diddily-umptious-est (pt. II)

The second tranche of Louis Vuitton adverts featuring Scarlett Johansson was released yesterday, and all I can say is, just like the first group, these six photos do absolutely nothing to bring me on-board the the LV popularity train.

The bags are gratuitously emblazoned with the looky-at-my-designer-baggy logo I so can't stand, the clothes - red patent trench and black schoolmarm-meets-Dita-von-Teese pumps aside - have a confusing mix of Gone With the Wind and Boogie Nights influences, and then there are those cumbersome chunky bangle bracelets -- not my thing, any of it.

But at the end of the day, you have that beautiful face, that copious cleavage and a breathstopping melange of sex kitten expressions.

ScarJo may not make me want to fork over $2,395 for a shearling-trimmed top-handle, but she sure has me reaching for the remote to watch (for the billionth time) the opening scene of Lost in Translation...
