Tax-free, whee!

$82.95?

$78.95?

$73.95?

Not even close -- try $59.49, courtesy of Macy's $69.99 'Gotta Have It' sale price, a 15% in-store coupon and DC's blessed biannual tax-free holiday.*

True, by purchasing these sweet, round-toed patent leather slingbacks with wide, suede bow adornments, you'll in a way be helping to prop up the inevitably-going-to-implode house of cards that is Jessica Simpson's "career," but honestly, they're worth shouldering that guilt and even the inevitable ribbing you're sure to receive from your more lah-dee-dah, "I don't get why you just didn't just go to Saks" girlfriends.

These shoes may look relatively pedestrian, and yes, they may bear the signature of a blonde blowup doll that doesn't leave the house without a thick shredding of Big Leauge Chew and a clip-on weave who wears and designs head-shaking fare like this and these, respectively, but you have to understand, despite all that bad, these shoes are the first and only pair I've ever found at a reasonable price-point that have a stem-skinny heel, a relatively rich-looking (and feeling) patent leather, a well-adhered bow in a contrasting fabric and an exaggeratedly round round-toe lead.

And just off the top of my head, I'm confident they'll nicely complement a pencil skirt, a-line skirt, classy-sexy for-Fall mini skirt, stovepipe trousers, wide-leg trousers, colored skinny jeans, dressy short shorts, slim city shorts, cap-sleeved sheath, slight cap-sleeved sheath, short-sleeved sheath, mock-neck sheath, sleeveless sheath, wrap dress, fuller-coverage cocktail dress and pretty much anything else you could throw at 'em.

So if you're in the market for an inexpensive, prim, office-appropriate, wardrobe-versatile pump, liberate one of those "15% off one item" coupons you know you've stuffed somewhere, strut your stuff over to the closest Macy's and snap up a pair of Jessica Simpson's 'Howard' slingbacks.

"But Mum, you can't wear budget shoes to the Blessing of the Dogs -- what will the Kalorama contingent think?"

*DC's tax-free week is in effect through August 12th and extends to items $100 and under

I can't get enough of your dog. He's absolutely perfect.

Now you're legs, geez, a guy could get sick of those pretty quickly.

Seriously, enough with the gratuitous leg pictures. Enough with the cute dog pictures. And ENOUGH with commenters encouraging this self-absorbed style Johanna has recently taken on. Stick to clothes and "shut up" about how great your body/dog/hair is.

That felt good.

her legs aren't that good anyway.

Please don't stop showing the legs. The negative comments above are clearly offered from a vantage of complete ignorance. You can wrap them around me anytime! I think they're simply the best. And those shoes...well I won't say anymore ;-)

a big fan or yours, tell me what you think about the colored skinny jeans for fall. i think you mentioned you bought a red pair? what will you wear with them? what kind of shirts does one wear with brightly colored skinny jeans? and will you wear them with heels? as a very short, in shape but not stick thin, girl i just had the courage to buy my first pair of skinnies, but they're in gunmetal grey. i wonder if the bright colors would not work on my short curvy size. oh, and i live in ny so it's a little easier to get away with things here. :)

People who can't stand to look at a well-defined, hard earned pair of legs are most likely JEALOUS.

Jesus. I don't know how you handle/ignore some of these comments so gracefully. I'm annoyed enough the both of us, I suppose, and I don't even know you.

This is not "The Anonymous" blog. This is The Johanna blog. Put your freakin (cutiepie) pup and your goddamn (gorgeous) gams anywhere you damn well like....just turn on comment moderation, please. If someone wants to bring the hate, they should have the cajones to do so publicly...and post a picture of themselves so that you can have a go right back at 'em.

freckldk-

Thank you for standing up for me! And you *do* know me -- happy hour at Grand Central, remember?

Anyhoo, it was kind of you to say what you did, and perhaps not only I but those who've been hatin' on my pup (why? why the dog??)and me will also take what you said to heart.

muwah,
J

No, I know you to see. I've met you (and you were absolutely lovely), but I don't KNOW you. You know?

And you're most welcome. More often than not, we attempt to strike down the persons we envy, just so we can bring them down to "our" level. Take it as a compliment. An annoying, puerile compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.

And anyone who doesn't love a picture of a pup is clearly a degenerate.

At one point maybe they were nicer but you need to lay off the cupcakes and do less running, they are starting to look like men's legs and getting a bit to muscular not toned. I am sure the guys over at Dupoint would love those shows though. And for the record I am NOT a female(but am married) but will read the blog for amusement from time to time.

If I saw legs like that on a man, well...I might just be tempted to change sides!!!

Just catching up on the drama post-travels.

I think my feelings on the whole thread can best be summed up with a lyric from Annie:

Why you gotta be so mean, you mean old meany?

Ah, Miss Hannigan, drunk on bathtub gin...

I can't really tell if I like the shoes or not. If you are going to keep posting self portraits I think you should chunk down some money on a real digital camera. The camera phone pictures are grainy and dark.

I don't care one way or another if you splash yourself all over your blog. I am looking for fashion ideas. Clearer pictures however make it easier to see.

I miss you. Your wicked sense of humor. Your good cheer and good manners. The light in your eyes. The unpredictable enthusiasms. And, yes, your legs.
