Be patient with me this week

My trainer, also the world's smallest, most irascible cheerleader (seen here in his "Team Johanna" workout tee*), insisted I place primacy on getting sufficient beauty rest instead of updating my blog at its usual pace this week, so even though I'd much prefer to stay up into the wee hours of the night searching for and writing about beautiful clothes, confounding DC style and fugly celebrity wardrobe choices, I'm instead going to be crawling into Monte's and my nightly spoon at a much more reasonable, hopefully-before-midnight time.

Post completed - or in today's case, started - or not.

How could I defy this little face? I mean, just look at him -- like a miniature Burgess Meredith!

*a million thanks to super-friends C, E & K for this. Muwah.

Cute. Very, very cute. So you've opted not to puppy-Bjorn him on Sunday, then?

N said...

You think that puppy can't get any cuter and then he does.

Good luck on your race!

Johanna those pics are priceless.....get all the rest you need and best of luck on your race.

I'm not as dear as Monte, but I'm rooting for you, too! Good luck!

So glad to see the workout tee fits just fine. Can't wait to get up at the crack o'dawn on Sunday, throw on my own Team Johanna tee, and cheer you on.

I wish Katie was running hers first so that you could aim to beat her time. I think that would be a big day for you. Either way, your dog is sweet as pie.

It's funny, I saw a woman this morning and thought to myself, "Wow, she's really stylish and pretty, I wonder what Johanna would think of what she's wearing," and then, as I looked closer and saw the hair and the shoes, I realized it was YOU! The trench looks great and those tights are so cool! Where did you get them?

brown rowergirl-

no, no puppy-Bjorning this race. Monte put his paw down on that one.

N-

I know, right? I feel that way everytime I come home. I'm like, "How did he get cuter from this morning?" Thanks for the good luck!

Tom H.-

Thank you!

FreckledK-

I'll need all the rooting I can get - thanks!

K-

These meant more to me than you know. I was really very touched by the gesture. Thank you :-)

faithful reader-

aww, thanks. you should've introduced yourself! I love it when readers come up to me on the street. it truly does make my day. the tights are fabu and from Spanx. They're the Fancy Tight-End Bodyshaping tights in Smoke-petals and I love 'em!

best,
J

I have that pic of you and Monte in my room! Everyone who sees it always comments, "Awwww, they're so cute!"

But you knew that ;-)

has it cooled down there? you wouldn't want a Chi-town marathon disaster...

I half-expected to walk out to get the paper this morning and find Monte standing there menacingly on the stoop saying, "Eh, maybe you cool it with the doggie clothes, OK? This dog only covers the junk on Oscar Night, baby!"

That first shot is so dramatic! What a ham!

Not that I won’t miss you, but I totes understand. Good luck this weekend! Your 26.2 makes my saturday ten-miler look like a joke :)
ps. monte looks puppy-licious, as always. love love love the team J tee - props to your friends!

"a miniature Burgess Meredith"

God, I adore you.

Monte looks more than a little displeased at his situation. I can only imagine his expression were you to try to puppy-Bjorn him.

will be tracking you this weekend, babe.

guess who just bought a pair of your FAVORITE shoes???

Project Beltway!

(snickering)

And they're awful. God fearin' AWFUL.

Anonymous said...

as awful as J's haircut? Impossible!

It's funny, because I honestly love my hair so much that your barbs really don't get to me. It's like my ivory knit vintage babydoll mini or my fug-ass running shoes -- sticks and stones do nada. They is here to stay.

I'd move onto something more vulnerable like how I only feel comfortable wearing stud earrings. I know, *I know* there's a whole world of chandeliers, hoops, dangles and other types out there, but I just can't do it!

kisses,
J

You tell 'em. I don't get it, your hair looks tremendous. I think the only people who make fun of it are girls whose faces couldn't pull off such a daring cut and guys who aren't fully comfortable with a strong, independent woman. In my experience, the guys who liked women with shorter hair were always the most confident.

Like Monte!

How about saying that your dog isn't that cute? 'Cause he really isn't. I have 3 JRTs in my building that are a ton cuter than your pansy mutt.

Oh. My. God. Did it seriously just come to that? Were your detractors just reduced to assailing dear Monte? Priceless. Wow Anon 5:17, you should be really proud of yourself. Not at all pathetic. Not in the least.

Good luck in the race this week! I will be there cheering on Team In Training. (just finished my first marathon 2 days ago, ouch!). More power to ya!

Hahaha, I really needed the laugh at your detractors insulting your *dog*. Are they in the 8th grade?

Anyone who hasn't bought Jo's Fav MJ shoes, they're part of the buy one, get one 50% off sale at macys.com at the moment.

anonymous 5:17 took this dialogue to such a stupidly low level that I'm rendered speechless.

credit goes to C and K. so sorry i missed you girls last night. would much rather have been with you. getting swallowed alive by grad school... nearing total collapse... please take good care of bax and ru when i'm gone...

I abhor people who dress up their pets, but I'll make an exception here. He's too precious, despite that glazed over look in the bottom photo. You can practically hear him screaming on the inside, "take it off! take it off!"

sarahsouth said...

"hating on Jo is such a waste of time," i do understand your point. however, the verbal smack-down that ensues against the haters is ohsomuchmore entertaining that my limited cable television plan.

on the other hand, hating on monte is crossing the line...

N said...

Ok, I am going to admit something here, so don't hate me, Johanna:
I don't even really like dogs and I think Monte is adorable. You know he's cute if I think so.

Unknown said...

You know my position on putting clothing on dogs. It's strictly for humans. That said, Monte is totally adorable in that shirt. So I'm making an exception.

While I don't want one for Cody, I do want one for me. While I can't cheer you on this weekend I would certainly wear my "Team Johanna" Tee with pride this weekend. So where can I get one? And please don't go with Cafe Press. Their clothes are made from the crappiest fabric.
