Finally, the first colors of Fall have arrived!

Aside from having to set an alarm after a too-short two-day respite, my least favorite Monday morning exercise is opening up my Microsoft Outlook and seeing four or five pesky "reminder" boxes pop up and alert me to the fact that I have two early morning meetings, a double-booked lunch and a happy hour with that World Bank guy I met on the street to whom I was too nice and somewhere in between telling him, yes, I did realize my dress was chic and answering his inane question about how I was able to pull off the "hot and smart 'look'" so effortlessly, agreed to meet at McCormick & Schmick's for a drink.

My scowl growing more pronounced with each "dismiss" click through, I thought to myself, "Great, this is going to be a really f**king great way to start the week."

But then, totally unexpectedly, the last of my five reminders sent my curled bottom lip straight back out into its default pleased-with-life pout.

Today, according to the little blue-on-grey-on-white box, is the day OPI releases its new Russian-inspired Fall 2007 Collection.

наконец-то!

Though I always keep my fingers polish-free from May 31st through September 1st both to give my nails a rest from the abuse they endure the other eight months of the year and because I love the look of tan hands against clear, healthy nail-beds, looking at so-dark-they're-almost-black colors like "Midnight in Moscow," "Russian Navy," "Boris & Natasha" and "St. Peters Burgundy" are tempting me to break with tradition and give Jennifer at PIAF a quick "Can you please fit me in today?" call.

I have a sneaking feeling that just like the Deliciously Dark collection from last year, these richly mixed and reasonably priced polishes will go quickly (yes, even in DC), so get that задница in gear, head over to any nail salon that doesn't require its aestheticians wear surgical masks and pick up your favorite color(s) today!

The entire collection:*

(L to R: Midnight in Moscow, Siberian Nights, Russian Navy, Suzi Says 'Da!')
(L to R: St. Peters Burgundy, An Affair in Red Square, Vodka & Caviar, Ruble For Your Thoughts)
(L to R: Boris & Natasha, Catherine the Grape, Kreme de la Kremlin, Cosmo-Not Tonight, Honey)

the automatic translators can be crude. you might want to replace "окончательно" with "наконец-то" and "жопа " with "задница".
yeah, and since Jennifer told me about your blog last Friday, I am an addict :)

Awesome, thanks for the translation help! I'm admittedly limited to Babelfish when it comes to Russian. And French. And pretty much any other foreign language. Your help is greatly appreciated -- and immediately acted upon!

you probably speak Mandarin or Chinese though. Russian is useless nowadays

Don't even get her started on how smart she thinks she is - she could go on and on and on...

I would never have pegged you for liking the 'Russian Navy' blue color, but I'm pleasantly surprised! I'm betting it's a lot less bright in person, especially with a double coat, but even still, it's a pretty cool endorsement.

the colors actually are as dark as they look. I was shocked. My boss would not give me a raise if i wore any of those

I hope they're darker than they look in these pictures! And I'm of the opinion that as long as you keep your nails very short and very touched-up (i.e. not a *single* chip), dark polish isn't at all unprofessional. In fact, I think it looks incredibly chic. But each office has its standard, and you know my strict view on meeting that standard...

you didn't see them in person? our d-clash queen has them already

I just saw Jennifer last week, and she told me "not until Monday..."

I'm SO getting the 'Russian Navy' treatment this week!

I usually wear OPI Skinny Dipp'n In Lake Michigan, but might venture to purchase a darker color on my toes this weekend. It's about time to retire Melon of Troy

I agree with Johanna...as long as you keep your nails short and neat, this look can be very professional.

Luckily, I have a stylish boss from LA. We love to compare manicures :)

my boss is a wonderful and brilliant person. But very conservative (60+ retired military officer)

That Russian Navy is tempting...

Hey, off topic, but did you see that you were mentioned on DC Style?

I'm in love with St. Peters Burgundy

The only question unanswered - how in the world do you know russian?

DC Pleats-

Thank you, I *did* see that! Sweet of you to point it out in a public forum :-)

Anonymous (7:24)-

I took semesters of Russian in college, but barely any of it stuck. The phrases I used (before I changed them to those another anonymous recommended) were crude translations taken from Babelfish.

I'd like to comment on the d-bag who said that Russian is useless nowadays.

Such a comment is a clear indication of how little anon2 knows about Russia, Russian, or anything related to it.
