Forgive me, readers, for I actually like a D&G dress...

Some guilty confessions and surprising realizations I can't keep to myself any longer:

After seeing this dress on both Revolve and Saks' websites and then triple-checking with the Google that my eyes didn't, in fact, deceive me, I have to concede I am no longer able to say I hate everything Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have ever designed. It hurts, but that's life. On the bright side, it's not like I don't still have Roberto Cavalli and Beyoncé to rely on for consistent production of makes-me-wince clothing. I've contemplated these Dell'Acqua's as a 'Sugar Daddy' offering since the day they debuted in Bop's designer boutique over a month ago, but for some reason I've hesitated. I guess I just didn't want to deal with all the "but I thought you hated ankle straps" and "with your calves you really oughtn't wear an ankle strap" comments their presence on my blog was sure to elicit. I'm not sure whether it's their prick-point toe, their intermixed colors and materials or their sneaky, hidden platform that has me tilting my head and sighing each time I look at them, but whatever it is, I'm no longer hiding from the world that I likey these a lotty.
I want a jumpsuit. Or playsuit. Whatever this sexy, space-cadet looking thing is called, I want it, and I wanna wear it with five-inch matte-metallic heels and one of those crazy, super-structured Balenciaga jackets. Not to work or to a wedding, of course, but maybe to cocktails at the Mayflower...God, how I love the crowd at Town & Country on a weeknight...
For only the second time in my life, I'm finding it hard to deny that a dress made of nothing but black leather can actually be sexy in a non-streetwalker sense. I crave this little number in the worst way, but knowing my luck it's probably not only another Dolce & Gabbana anomaly but also so outlandishly expensive even HRL would hesitate.
After seeing this interview, I actually feel guilty for liking Katie as much as I do. Or did, rather. Her story sure is an intoxicating one, but its novelty quickly fell to the floor when I had no choice but to accept that there isn't an ounce of wry humor, charm or playful beguile about her -- just a bunch of sophisticated knits, Nicole Richie sunglasses and biannual haircuts. Such a shame...

Any fashion-related confessions you'd like to share?

Yeah, but even as a guy I can see that dress with that hair is hot.

My confession: I really like a Sean John dress. Who would've EVER thought? Sean freaking John????

I confess that I own a pair of ankle booties (I can't use your word...) and I *love* them!

Confession: I WORE Sean John on New Year's Eve. My friends still haven't let me live it down.

Whatever, it was fabulous and sparkly.

Oh, and also, I confess that I just bought a shorts jumpsuit. Yes, I did.

Anonymous said...

Elle, I MUST see your shorts jumpsuit! I bet it's perfection.

My fashion confession of the day is just that I didn't think Kit's dress was that heinous.

I have to confess that I actually like some of Lily Pulitzer's clothes. Not all of them but a few of her dresses. I know, I know shoot me down people!

One more point for D&G: I have some slim, 2 inch skinny heel, D&G brown and black intertwining T-strap peep toes that I bought at some ridiculous sale in NYC. I get at least three compliments every time I wear them. Actually, they would go with that dress...

I love the wide stripe up the back of those Dell'Acquas!

I just bought a pair of Marc Jacobs flats that are so far out of my budget I had to cancel my shopping plans to New York this weekend.

it was worth it though! how cute are they:

Philly fan - *totally* worth it. I mean it.

that leather dress was MADE for your haircut. holy sh*t!

I admit that I like Katie a whole let less after her media blitz this week as well. She has so little substance it's actually making me wonder if all those Scientology brainwashing rumors have some truth to them.

I also confess that I bought that Rodriguez dress you wore over New Year's. In ecru, hon, not gold, so don't worry about it.

Katie is too young to be speaking in platitudes...

I really hope none of your readers (or you) would really buy something as cruel as a leather dress. There are so many alternative to leather. Don't you find it confusing to be such an animal lover and yet promote so many animal-unfriendly products on your site?

Anonymous said...

I'm a size 10 and have a pair of purple skinny jeans. I know I don't look as good in them as you would, but I love them and I'm not giving them up :)

Johanna said...

a *true* animal lover-

No, I don't find it confusing at all, but mainly because I choose not to think about all the many hypocrisies I have in my life.

I love my dog and somehow I'm able to love to eat foie gras, too.

Yep, I got nothin' registering on the ol' conscience...

sorry,
J

p.s. bff - oooh, please to send picture of you in ecru RobRod!

You're the only person I know who doesn't like Beyonce's sense of style.

Anonymous said...

anon-1:04, ARE YOU KIDDING?????? I think most of the world doesn't like her sense of style. Or at least her lack of ability to dress appropriately for her body type.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Beyonce is inacapable of dressing to flatter her figure. 90% of the time.

Anonymous said...

my confession is that I don't really get Kate Hudson's appeal. She has a good body and a cute generic face but I fail to understand why she's constantly compared to the likes of Sienna, Rachel and Kate.

Katie totally bombed on Letterman!

Also - did you hear that she recently referred to Suri as "an amazing woman?" That's just strange!

Anonymous said...

Mine: I was totally serious about finding that J Crew dress with the 60s Italian flowers charming. It is unusual, clever, unique, has an interesting history, and I love the colors. And I wear wedges.

Anonymous said...

even with the classiest outfit I still find dark red/black nails totally goth. I wish I understood why you always wear it but I don't.

Anonymous said...

that D&G is so not typical of them. I like it a lot as well.

my confession is that I don't mind logos on my bags as long as they're not Coach or Dooney. I know it's wrong and hypocritical, but I really like the Fendi logo!

I liked Katie's hair a lot more before she got it cut

I find all of the women on Sex and the City insufferable.

does anyone remember how katie holmes used to interview before Tom?

i saw the diane sawyer interview and just couldn't keep watching...listening to her talk was really boring. it was like a machine talking.

Brooke said...

I want the old Katie back.

Anonymous said...

Apparently, Tom taught her the words magical, magnificent and amazing. And that is the extent of her vocabulary.

Anonymous said...

Just watched the clip, and she *is* without any beguile. I confess I thought this was a snippy cat fight, but after watching the first 2 minutes, as a guy, even I was totally turned off.

I confess that I used to daydream about Tara Reid back in the days of the "American Pie" movies.

Anonymous said...

who is that in the leather dress? the dress is hot but wow, she's incredible...

Anonymous said...

My confession is that I read blogs like this one! Most people who know me would be surprised, since I'm _far_ too "serious" to care about such things... right?

BTW, I tend to favor flat, comfortable, and boring when it comes to shoes, but man, those Aerosoles someone linked to in the last set of comments were FUGLY!

Anonymous said...

N, I hate all the women on Sex & the City, too! I'm the only woman I know who can't stand that show.

Anonymous said...

I love my goose and somehow I'm able to love to eat dog, too.

You're right- the jumpsuit is shockingly alluring!

And also- the more i read your blog, the more intense my dislike of Beyonce becomes. ugh.

these confessions are hysterical. i have too many to mention. in fact, i have so many that they're not really "confessions" - they're more like "this is my life. avert your eyes."

but for the sake of conversation, i'll throw this in: i showed up at johanna's apartment wearing FLATS. and i left behind a really ugly pair of leather gloves that my mom gave me. ugh... :(

also, my underwear drawer. 'nuff said.

Katie is very underwhelming as a personality. She is definitely robot-ish now as Tom's wife. I also am not impressed by her style, mainly because it screams that a stylist put her together. The clothes she wears does not translate to who she is, at all. She's not sophisticated to me in the least, she's just a creation of stylists and Tom. Left to her own to pick out clothes, I bet they would look drastically different.

My fashion confessions are way worse than the ones here...think, ripped up sweats and such.

i love having schlubby days. i like rolling to the farmers market on the weekend in 6 year old jeans, a cause related tshirt or school related sweatshirt, my red sox hat and my comfy sneakers. not only is it comfortable, but i honestly think i look cute...

Check out the Modern Vintage Zandale pump, $120 on Endless.com. They are an affordable, slightly more real life high-heeled ankle-strap. Plus free shipping and free returns. What have you got to lose?

Fashion confessions? I live and work in DC and dress like it half the time.

Lady Tiara said...

i guess i made my confession in the last comment thread: i kind of like high-heeled oxfords as long as they don't cover the ankle. i'm still anti-pootie though.

I secretly like when I find some of my dog's hairs on me at work. It makes me smile - like he's with me!

Anonymous said...

san fran -- that is just nasty.

Johanna said...

san fran fan-

I feel the EXACT same way. I love having my munchkin "with me" at all times.

best,
J

The Dell'Acqua's should look great so long as the strap hits below your ankle bone. It doesn't cost anything to try them on, right?

Anonymous said...

I'm with Karen and N. SATC sucked and I can't believe they made a movie out of that dead horse *no bad SJP puns intended*

Anonymous said...

is that thalia in the leather dress?

Johanna said...

It's actually Cassie -- isn't she the gorgeousness?
