Just 'cause you like it duhn't mean you should wear it

Oh Linds, it's not even your Tang-glow I'm focused on here...
Different day, different shoes, same issue.

Different day, different beverage, still the same issue.
I know I'm not the only one who sees the silhouette of a paint-roller here...
I'm not sure which is more perplexing, that Rihanna chose it or that Zac Posen designed it.
Stretch velvet stretched across your mid-section -- not in theory and definitely not in practice.
My expectations for Beyoncé to wear anything figure-flattering are so low that I almost didn't include her in the bunch. This look is pretty much par for the course for her, after all. My only request is that she please give satin a rest -- it never has been and never will be a "zaftig girl" fabric.
* check back later to see these women on better days. Though I must warn you, I can't promise I'll be able to find one for the hot mess, er House of Dereon above

Lindsay should definitely not be taking part in the leggings as pants craze. what happened to her thighs??

rehab happened. let's hope amy winehouse goes and it has a similar effect on her.

a rare miss for Rihanna!

I'm kidding, of course.

Beyonce's dress is a joke. There is no way she could be comfortable in that. As a girl "of size" myself, I can assure you I never go anywhere near that fabric and shoo any of my larger friends away from it as well. It shows too much of too much.

Lindsay is moving back towards her Mean Girls size - which hopefully means she is becoming more healthy. Nonetheless, spandex does not flatter her, no matter how she wears it.

I hope you guys aren't implying that Lindsey's legs look big, because that's ridiculous. She only looks big to you all because you're used to every star looking like an Olsen twin. She looks great in these pictures!

I think Beyonce has amazing style. You're just jealous.

Crazy. Beyonce's body is amazing. Look at that waist-to-hip ratio. The dress is still fug, but zaftig she is not. And at least it covers her thunder thighs.

Just to be clear, this post isn't commentary on these women's figures, rather their *outfit choices*.

And we'll have to agree to disagree on the Beyonce-as-zaftig issue.

best,
J

If we're just talking outfit choices, then I agree. I didn't recognize LiLo in the third pic.

Why say "zaftig" .... just go ahead and call Beyonce fat if that is how you feel. No need to sugar coat it in another language.

Hey Johanna, why don't you do a post providing some sample outfits that Beyonce would look better in? Maybe one day she'll stumble upon the site...

Um, because to me, the word "zaftig" doesn't necessarily mean "fat". In my view, a zaftig woman has great hourglass proportions but more meat on her bones than say, a size 4 or 6. A fat woman, on the other hand, brings to mind a perfect Pringle Can shape. You know, 38-38-38?

And the last time I included Beyonce in one of these features I was able to find a dress that looked much more flattering to her shape. I'm sure I can do it again, but frankly, she does this kind of tight/tight/tight thing a lot, so it does take more time to find an example of something *I* like on her.

Those of you who read this site often know that I rarely if ever criticize without providing alternative options. If you just want ripping down, go to GFY -- those ladies have it down to an art and it's beautiful to watch them in action.

best,
J

I agree 100% with J on the definition of the word "zaftig." There is definitely a sensuality associated with it. Fat to me just means untoned and overweight in all the wrong places.

The message of these posts as I understand it is clearly not to rip apart the stars but instead to point out to us (through their mistakes) what looks best on what body type. J has made no secret that she think clothes look best on a thinner frame, but I think she's also been up front that she appreciates curvier women as well. Let's not try and paint her with a prejudiced brush here.

I thought the italicizing of the word "House" had some implication behind it - such as, Beyonce is as big as a house, not that she just has a lovely hourglass shape. Perhaps I misinterpreted the meaning behind the italics?

House of Dereon is the name of Beyonce and her Mother's clothing line. The dress she's wearing came from that line as well.

I don't think Beyonce normally looks like a house but in this dress, sorry, she does. Which is the whole point of this post! Even skinny ass Paris Hilton looks two lanes wide in her getup. Focus on the message at hand, people, don't get wrapped up in the fat vs. thin argument!

I wrote the 10:45 comment, and was actually in earnest-- Beyonce seems to stick with a very blah tight/shiny look, and I was interested to know what style you think would be better. Not outfits she's actually worn. But as that I've typd this, it occurs to me that I'm alredy sick of seeing/discussing her. You probably are, as well.

Anyway, the snark was directed towards her style, not your critique.

Lindsay looks like hell.

While I don't like her dress at all, I echo the earlier reader's comment that at least she isn't "showing off" those legs of hers. Better kept under wraps those things are.
