Eye candy of the week

What the heck, y'all seemed eager to eat all the candy last week, so I figured it'd be a good idea to pass some more out.

Enjoy.

If I were more into handbags, I'd jump for joy at finding this Kelly-style vintage bag. At only $70, even the price smacks of decades gone by...

I was recently asked who my favorite current designer was for a blogger profile, and my answer -part of it, anyway- was that, for clothing I can afford (when it's on-sale), I'm definitely all about Beth Blake and Melissa Akey for Thread Social right now. This is a look from their Spring/Summer RTW collection, and I'm already stalking TS's online vendors in anticipation of its debut.

This is the prettiest Vicky B. has looked in years. I could be wrong, but I think it may be her new wrist tatt that's responsible for her dare I say, almost friendly-looking glow...

We may have broken up after the disturbingly vacant appearances you gave during promo week for that awful movie I know you're regretting right about now, but Katie, doll, we'll always have your outfits. This one, I'm proud to say, looks awfully similar to what I put together every chilly Saturday afternoon. It has "walking 10 blocks to Penn Quarter" written all over it.

Like a soothing, drop-drop-fizz-fizz after the SAG Awards heartburn - Joy Bryant adds a touch of class to the head-shakingly bad fare on the Welcome Home Roscoe Jones red carpet.
The side view is just as good, no?

KimKar in quite possibly the ugliest swimsuit the Calypso outlet ever did sell. But for serious, who's even looking at the suit? Even Kim can't help but glance at her goodies and think, "Gotta admit, I'm a lucky, lucky lady..."

I wasn't in love with the cut of the colorblocked Calvin Klein gown Jamie-Lynn Sigler wore to the SAG Awards last Sunday, however...
...I do believe I have a new pair of shoulders to adore.

Speaking of disappointing SAG dresses, thank goodness Kate rebounded from her Harley-inspired Balmain number with this kicky cobalt Lanvin mini. *Love*.

And while we're on the topic of Lanvin, let me please lust over this pre-Fall peek at Alber's upcoming collection (photo courtesy of Ms. Spinach)

Not crazy about the embellished Herrera dress, not crazy about all the Godiva (I'm a Sunkist Fruit Gems girl) but Ali Larter, as always, is so well put-together I had no choice but to dub her a definite piece of "eye candy".

That handbag is perfect.

This should so be a regular feature. Best no-cal candy ever.

Please let us know when that TS dress shows up for sale (and then again when it goes on sale.) It's the perfect compromise between ruffles and bustiness as debated below.

good post!!

i stared at the kim pic for at least 3 minutes. she is mesmerizing.

yes, definitely, make this a regular feature. you have a perfect balance of bitchiness and charm that eludes most other celeb bloggers. and if you can get me to turn around 180 degrees on someone like kim kardashian...color me impressed.

There are several TS dresses on sale at Neiman's. You can find a lot of TS at intermix in DC or Soiree in Old Towne (seriously)

what a waste of a chocolate event on skinny ali larter. i doubt she ate a thing. if *i* were in front of that showcase, however...mmmm

i third the idea of this being a weekly feature! after last week, i was hoping you'd do it again.

a classic vintage bag, Kim's chest, Posh's wrist tatt (!), two Lanvin references and Katie's clean style all in the same post. You in a pretty little nutshell ;)

I can't decide if I like the black Lanvin number or Joy Bryant's dress the best here.

Or maybe it's Katie's outfit...

They're all candy to me.

Johanna et al

sorry to hijack the post...i need your help! my boss just asked where he can take some of our business guests out in dc where there will be some "younger" ladies to mingle with -- but not too clubby and somewhere they won't fill out of place.

where do you all go for the silver foxes (besides the mayflower)?

thanks for the help!

Try Marvin or Eighteenth Street Lounge.

this could be a post in itself (foreshadowing, foreshadowing), but offhand, I'd suggest the downstairs lounge at The Source, Marvin (good call, N), Hook, Indebleu, Blue Gin, and Le Bar in the Sofitel.

I have fond memories of that last one...sigh.

best,
Johanna

Ewwww. Anon307's post really gave me douche chills.

Before all of you get worked up, as I know you like to do, I'm not calling the commenter a douche, obviously. Just the men in question.

Anon 3:45 -- Don't worry, no offense taken. I'm just trying to help out here -- my boss is a married man (not that that means anything) who has had this request placed on him by the businessmen coming in from out of town (or should I specify, out of country lol).

Marvin...really? I've been a couple times and I've always thought it more hipster than businessman hook up joint.

Thanks for the responses & looking forward to the post!

the term "douche chills" gave me vomit chills

Marvin goes either way, depending on the night in question. Saturday nights, definitely more hipsters than businessmen, but on a Thursday, you'd see a heavier mix of suits straight after work.

Le Bar is where I'd go, and no, not because J seems to have met someone special there, but because it's the epitome of young meets old in DC. Beautiful, well-dressed young professional women and beautiful, well-dressed suits of all ages. Good selection of cocktails as well.

Indebleu or Blue Gin are good choices. My thought was these guys want to go where younger women are. Really upscale places like Hook are probably going to have more businessman than young women, at least from my experience.

As for Marvin, I guess it depends on the night of the week, but I love it there and I fervently deny being a hipster, although I guess I'd rather be a hipster than a douche.

Why is it so bad these guys want to be around younger women? If they're married, fine, that's one thing, but if they're not, I dunno, I think it's fine.

Q: by your logic, isn't it then equally douchey that women like J prefer to be in the company of older men?

Anonymous said...

from a guy's perspective,

no, it's not "equally douchey" of J to prefer older men. if she were after them for their money, that's one thing, but as much as her "Sugar Daddy" feature would have us think otherwise, I get the distinct impression she likes older men for other reasons.

Gold diggers aren't necessarily douchy, per se, but they are pathetic.

p.s. Jamie-Lynn's shoulders are meatier than JenConn's arent they?

Anonymous said...

You give our Editrix way too much credit. Of course the older men shtick is about the money, the lifestyle, the status, the image. What, you think she's actually after them for their maturity?

Please. The 'Sugar Daddy' idea may not be a hundred percent serious but I'd bet my Burberry trench and my Prada bag it's a huge part of her life goal of being able to shop and lunch all day long.

Anonymous said...

Ahhh, to shop and lunch all day long...what a wonderful life that would be....:)

I'm a "foxhunter" myself, and like Johanna, I've got a great job that pays my bills, gives me money for nice clothing and nights out. I don't *need* their money. On the whole older men "get" me better, treat me better and (you know what) better.

We like what we like, no need to judge.

so annoying that this conversation has to end up being about johanna and her personal life. i know she chooses not to be anonymous, but seriously, can't we make it through one posting without it coming back to her personal issues.

thanks for ruining it for everyone NOT IMPRESSED

Amen. Let's talk about KimKar!

Anonymous said...

Let's talk about the disembodied mannequin in the first photo, which is giving me the heebiest of jeebies!

(Love the Thread Social threads, tho.)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for introducing me to Social Thread... Love it!

And I second Anon 4:55. Enough already...

I poked around shopbop and found the cutest drop waisted bubble dress by TS for under $140, that's 70% off and they still had one in my size. Had to get it. This is my second asjine purchase - the first was the trio of flats at smartbargains for $99. my wardrobe thanks you!!!

Victoria does look pretty here. Thank goodness she ditched the blond 'do. The tatt is not so much my thing.

thanks for the link over to Thread Social's website. Their clothes are beautiful.

Joy, Katie, Jamie-Lynn, Ali, all of them really do look spectacular.

Sorry to go back to this, but I can't resist to tell J (and the other foxhunter) I'm with her on the older man front. I married my fox and couldn't be happier.

j, love the thread social dress! also love that you manage to find and post things from such a huge collection of sites. i always find myself shopping and browsing the same narrow list of places. you're constantly finding sites and stores i haven't heard of, which is awesome.

yeah, that's right. i'm a sycophant. bite me.

Jamie-Lynn is so lovely. Why doesn't she do more films?

Kim's body boggles my mind.

I'm with the earlier commenters, make this a weekly feature. I read a lot of celeb sites, but you always come up with an assortment of photos that are new and interesting. And yes, tasty to look at.

My favorite is the Katie Holmes outfit. I have flats that are very similar but no swing jacket. Off to Nordstrom I now go!
