Eye candy of the week

One of the time-saving tricks I've learned over the past year is that when a picture strikes me as blogworthy -no matter if I have or haven't a post in mind for which it will be of use- I always save it to a folder on my desktop labeled, "eye candy."

For days like this one when I don't have time to put together a thoughtfully written piece, that folder sure does come in handy.

Below you'll find my highlights from this week's prettiest, unused photos.

Enjoy.

The 40-year old First Girlfriend of France, Carli Bruni, from both the front...
...and the back. (well played, Mssr. Sarkozy)
The new Esquire cover. Even women will have a hard time tearing their eyes away from this leg-fest...
Miss Dita arriving at the Jardin des Tuileries for the Dior Haute Couture show on Monday......and Lacroix on Tuesday......and Gaultier on Wednesday...My favorite men's look of the RTW season (from Lanvin):My favorite women's look of the Haute Couture season (from Lacroix):
A take-your-breath-away photo from the Sartorialist:
Dita's Mouret sheath, Claudia's long, long limbs and Vick's Louboutins -- perfection.

Sigh...

do you realize you only post pictures of unhealthily thin women? no wonder you're starting to make your readers feel guilty about eating breakfast. let's see some more REAL women!!!

Oh, hush, 9:48. It's EYE CANDY.

Speaking of which, I caught this video this morning and fell in love with the production style. Song's pretty damn good, too. (The sound on YouTube is pretty weak, so you may have to adjust your speakers).

Sadly, not only is Carla Bruni VERY beautiful but she's actually talented too. Her French album is really good.

Your images are certainly inspiring, J! Thanks for the eye candy... which could keep us away from the actual candy. Maybe. We'll come back at 3pm to test that out for sure.

jo - she's also supposedly extremely well-read, witty and so on and so forth. the total package!

I'm so happy to see Dita back on your blog. She's one of my favorites.

and if I wanted to look at "real" women, anon 9:48, I'd go outside and people watch. what's wrong with indulging in a little pretty with your morning coffee?

great pics.

that song and video are truly horrible, though, kate. sorry.

I usually hate men's RTW, but this look from Lanvin is hot. Not for every man, of course...

rtw I enjoy, but the haute couture requires too much suspension of belief for me. I look at that Lacroix and try to like it, but it's just so puffy and silly looking. sorry :(

I think this is my favorite Dita this week though:

my fave is Sart's photo (wow!) and then the Esquire cover. It reminds me of the one Britney did for them a few years back based on the Angie Dickinson original. Doubt she could recreate that shot now.

Last photo is a classic.

How are these not *real* women? Are they fake?

Lots of women really do look like that. Lots of women don't have to skip breakfast to be slender. How are they *unhealthy*?

I think the pendulum has swung to far the other way in this country. We now feel it is socially acceptable to make derogatory comments about thin women. Not every woman struggles with her weight. Just as it is inapropriate to make remarks about someone who is a size 8 it is wrong to make comments when someone is a size 2.

No one looking at a picture is in the position to judge the 'health' of the one being photographed.

Actually the issue of Esquire that's shown has the Brittney photo on the inside cover and Angie Dickinson one after it.

And Carla Bruni had an English album come out last year. It's pretty good too, though I prefer the French one.

Er, Jaypea I hate to incite this particular taffypull, but your idea of the opposite end of the spectrum from a size 2 is a size 8?

Anonymous said...

I was thinking the same thing.

where are you and where is the Hillary vs. Anna post?

I love pictures but...I come here mainly for the writing.

I really don't think Posh deserved the "worst dressed" title. she has her off days but here, for example, she looks amazing. there are plenty of women who never have an amazing outfit and they didn't make the list. anyhoo, back to work...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 1:21 I completely agree with you-since when is size 8 a plus size?

Anonymous said...

since Johanna started implying it 13 months ago...

Anonymous said...

which is ironic given that she looks about that size (at least) in those pictures she posted on Monday

seriously, girls, GIVE IT A REST.

your whining is tiiiired.

carla bruni looks AMAZING. i wish i had her body both now and when im her age!!!! ;)

It definitely takes guts to wear a skimpy white bikini like Ms. Bruni with all the photographers watching - good for her!!

I think Dita's hair looks very geisha-esque in that first picture...kind of strange. She must use buckets of sunblock to keep her skin so pale!

It's really amazing how differently colored Posh and Dita are. I can't believe they are the same ethnicity.

No...I was saying a size 8 as a *normal, real women* size. Not a plus size.

I thought that was the argument here. That these pictures weren't of *real* women.

The same way not every women is a size 16 not everyone is a size 2. Hence, a size 8 seems to be a more *normal* size.

My point is that size 2 women are just as much real, healthy women as a size 8 or a size 12, if that makes you happier. Not every size 2is out starving herself and is unhealthy.

To all the ladies complaining about the lack of "real" women, recognise that someone busier than you is probably working out right now. It's a question of self-discipline and willingness to switch that 800 calorie pint of haagen dazs for a 60 calorie dove miniature ice cream. If you don't want to make that compromise, that's fine, but thinking of yourself as any more "real" than a lady that takes care of herself, just to make yourself feel better about your lot is delusion, plain and simple.

what anon 6:54 said. EXACTLY.

This should become a weekly feature!

I'm the only person who thinks Dita and Posh are extremely unappealing? Posh's face is busted and Dita looks like a wax statue.
