Her interview in the January issue of InStyle wasn't particularly interesting (more of her usual "he's amazing" and "I'm so lucky" fare), but then again I don't really like Katie Holmes for Katie Holmes but rather for the idea of being swept away in a Katie Holmesian fantasy world where all that matters is having great shoulders, dressing like a lady, getting unexpected haircuts and taking photos like the ones you'll see below.
Sigh...
Sigh...

what a waste of a Brown/Georgetown education...your poor (literally and figuratively) parents.
honestly, Dad, if you're gonna comment, just use your real name.
love,
number two child
Can you share Katie with me? I mean it seems like such a waste that she'd be all yours.
I really want that hair. I even tried to make an appointment with my girl at Bang (before a Saturday holiday party) but she's all booked...
1. J, that might be the most perfect comeback I've ever read
2. Katie has the most beautiful bone structure.
stunning
I think she's BORING
i have a love/hate relationship with how katie holmes dresses these days.
a part of me feels she went from 20something to 40 something as soon as she married tom cruise.
she's still in her twenties but i think even if she is incredibly classically dressed, it's just TOO OLD.
i feel like she's not really having fun in her clothes. but...thats my opinion.
She looks amazing in these pictures.
the Hayden/Katie contrast couldn't be any starker. Hayden is a clueless little girl and Katie is a lady with grace.
she'll always be clueless joey potter to me.
OL, what was up with the caption "it is unusual today to find an A-list actress..." Are they for real? Was she in a blockbuster I didn't hear about? Did she win an Oscar? Does she command $10 million a picture?
Nope. She's a middling actress with decent style and a famous husband. InStyle is usually full of stupid puffery, but that's just silly.
I don't think she dresses "too old" at all. Her clothes fit beautifully and always look luxurious. I'll take that over a sparkly mini dress or super lowrise bootcut jeans any day.
absolutely breathtaking. she has such a sophisticated yet chic style.
the Katie Holmesian lifestyle isn't gonna happen for you, babe. Move onto something else. this infatuation with her "perfect" life is getting old. and I must say, I'm in agreement somewhat with the first commenter. if what s/he wrote is true and you did go to these schools, do something more meaningful with your life than shop and play dress up.
Maybe anon 6:02 should do something more meaningful with her life than post rude comments about the author of a blog she reads. Why read this blog if you aren't interested in the things Johanna posts about (shopping and whatever "dress up" means)?
This is one of my fav fashion blogs in the entire US. Please keep it up! :)
I think this blog is great. This discussion reminded me of this interview with a beauty blogger...I've paraphrased her response when asked if caring about hair/makeup is shallow. I couldn't agree with her more.
"I say that beauty is not rocket science. It's not disease prevention. It's not counterterrorism. But it's an aspect of life that makes our days more pleasant, puts a spring in your step and helps bring a little harmony to the world.
[...]
And none of the pleasant things in life really "matter": art, music, wine, film, sports...But a world where we can't walk out of a salon rocking a brand new sex-kitten haircut and highlights? I don't want to live in that world. If enjoying those things is shallow, I'm shallow."

I agree with anon 6;09 if you don't like reading the blog then don't read it. And certainly don't comment.
I'm grateful for the first comment only because it elicited Johanna's perfect retort.
Bravo girl.
I freaking can't stand her and yet think she's so unbelievable gorgeous. Such a juxtaposition.
Hi - Did you see her last week when she was here in DC? She really looks incredible in real life. She looks older - in a good way - I can't explain it.
I know Johanna would LOVE those pictures as soon as I saw them. Her haircut really is tempting, but I have a feeling I would need an on call stylist to fix me up before work everyday to make it look good.
Johanna. I love your blog. Katie looks fierce in the those photos. Although, I don't consider myself to be a too much of a "fashionista" (whatever that means), I feel like your blog is very compelling and interesting. Ignore the criticisms and keep doing what you're doing! The District desperately needs you TLC.
Anonymous 6:02 PM's words of wisdom:
1. Do not dream big.
2. Do not do what you are passionate about.
3. You must only follow a career path that directly relates to what you studied. If you went to an Ivy League university, you may not work in the fashion industry, or use your free time writing a fashion blog.
What a Debbie Downer!
johanna, i love your blog, too....
and katie holmes has great style, even though she and tom are super creepy.
Does anyone know if she uses a stylist? It surely isn't Posh Spice - when she styled Katie before for . for . . . was it Vanity Fair? In any case, it was BORING. So, where does Katie get her guidance? Surely not the nice ladies at Barneys. I haven't read the article as I have tried to address my little magazine addiction - does it say?
PS - She has amazing hair. I think she will end the bangs trend all by herself (which sucks, because I just got bangs and I now regret it). : (
